Yay!!!!! [Sep. 2nd, 2009|08:01 am]
[mood | ecstatic]
[music |Mariah Carey, "Someday"]

My day has been made. And it's only 8:00.

How, you ask?

Danny Gokey signed a record deal.

For those of you who don't know, he came in fourth in this past season of American Idol. He was one of the heavy favorites. Since the other three have already been signed, this marks a first in AI history - all of the top four have record deals.

I can't tell y'all how happy I am about this. I really loved Danny; he's got a great voice, and I encourage everyone to listen to his album when it comes out. Unless you hate country - he's taking a country route. And even if you do, give him a chance anyway, he might change your mind.

Oooh, yay!!!! I'm gonna go bounce around my office now!!!!

A few interesting things to take note of . . . . . [Aug. 10th, 2009|08:28 am]
[mood | cheerful]
[music |"Dangerous and Sweet", by Lenka]

Saturday night, I was at Christiana Mall with a friend of mine. While browsing in the purse section of Macy's, we encountered a woman who wanted to know if said friend was my mother.

This girl is two years younger than I am!

Needless to say, she was pissed. Is anyone out there also amazed at the size of this woman's cajones to ask such that kind of question in that manner?

*blinkblinkblink*

Serious retail therapy followed, and (hopefully) all is now well.

Thing number two: I can now cross another item off my bucket list. I have finished Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen. I didn't like it, but I at least finished it. Yay me!!! I'm currently reading Devil in the White City, about the World's Fair in Chicago in the 1890's. Very interesting reading, thus far.

You have reached Kelly. This morning, Kelly is still in her happy place after seeing David Cook at the Delaware State Fair last night. Kelly expects to be in her happy place for the forseeable future - although, please note that the future is hard to foresee from one's happy place. Should you wish, please leave a message, and Kelly will get back to you once she returns to reality. Thank you!

I need a vacation from my vacation . . . . [Jul. 20th, 2009|10:11 am]
[mood | tired]
[music |"Another Day" - Chris Perez Band]

Who knew three days of walking and going up stairs and walking and going down stairs and more walking and sitting on the floor for a few hours and still more walking and sitting in chairs to watch anime and yet more walking and more stair climbing and did I mention walking could make you so sore? All that being said, I had an absolute ball at Otakon this year; I can't wait for next year!!! It's entirely possible that I might be able to post pictures, if I can figure out how to do it with my camera.

(And no, Jerry, that's not an invitation for you to tell me how. If I need help, I'll ask.)

And thankfully, my camera decided to love me, and not run low on battery until late morning on Sunday, when I'd taken the lion's share of pics anyway!!! :)

And can I say, the decision to cosplay as Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket was a brilliant one! The past four years, I've been obscure characters that no one recognized, so no one wanted to take my picture. This year, I got numerous picture requests, and even three hug requests!!!! Best costume idea ever . . . . .

Ok, back to real life now. :( Books to return . . . .

[music |Allison Iraheta, "Blame it on Your Heart"]

I wasted a perfectly good hour of my life - which was about half an hour more than I should have - on the new SciFi show Warehouse 13 Tuesday night. I wouldn't recommend it. I should have stopped after 30 minutes, but I wanted to give it a good shot. It's kind of a mix of X-Files and Friday the 13th - the TV show, not the movies. There were supposed to be a lot of Stargate people in it, but I didn't see any that I recognized. Ah, well. If any of you missed it, don't go trying to catch up. It's not worth it.

Is it time for Otakon yet??????

While at my friend's house for our annual get-together over the weekend, I bowed to her shameless and completely intentional use of peer pressure - anyone who's ever met Eve will agree, she's a shameless user of it - and signed up for Facebook. It took all of five minutes to get addicted. I now have 24 friends. So, anyone who's on my friends list who also uses Facebook, please feel free to search me out; I can always use more friends!!!!

Otakon emergency [Jun. 8th, 2009|09:44 am]
[mood | stressed]
[music |Daughtry, "Used To", on my iPod]

Is there anyone out there who's going to Otakon who might have space for me? Or knows someone who has some extra space? Seriously, people, I'll bring a sleeping bag and sleep on the floor. I had a space with a friend of mine, but I haven't heard from her in about a month, and I have no idea if she's even going. Quel, if you see this, for the love of God, call me back! My sister's wedding is in 2 weeks, Otakon is a month away, and I really don't have time to mess around with this. *crosses fingers* Help, anime lovers!!!

Yet another stab at this . . . . [Apr. 14th, 2009|09:43 am]
[Current Location |work]
[mood | hopeful]
[music |Shakira, "No Creo"]

So, I'll be trying something new in the war otherwise known as the  Weight Loss Challenge. Spending an hour on the treadmill almost every day doesn't seem to be cutting it, so my mom suggested I try Curves. There's one right by my work, so I stopped by yesterday to check it out. The lady I talked to was very informative - I think I actually got glazed over at one point because she just threw so much information at me! Besides her though, there were at least three people there who all assured me that it was great and I would love it. So I'm going back today to try a workout and see if I like it. If I do, they're having a fitness challenge or whatever going on, 30 days for 30 dollars, then after that, if I decide to keep going, the 30 dollars goes towards my registration fee. I figure I can do a half hour a couple times a week - and I really have nothing to lose at this point - aside from the weight and hopefully some inches off my problem areas, which is basically my hips and thighs.

Those of you who know me are most likely chiming in with the following - "but you don't need to lose weight!" I do, actually - but thanks for saying so! Not a lot - maybe 10-15 pounds. If I've been doing my BMI correctly, I am overweight - I come up with 25.5, which is just over the ideal. I'll try and find a good picture to maybe post here, so you can all see me. I'm 5 foot 8 and somewhere between 160-170 pounds - probably around 165 if I'm being completely honest. I've had weight problems all my life, and a few years ago I spent some time on Weight Watchers. I went from about 176 to 150, but put most of it back on once I stopped counting points. It's a good deal short-term, but I just couldn't translate it into long-term success. So here's hoping Curves will be different. *crosses fingers*

Just a quickie today..... [Apr. 1st, 2009|09:15 am]
[mood | contemplative]
[music |David Cook in my head . . . .]

Just a quick little post today. For all those of you who at one time enjoyed Angel, one of the actors has passed away. 33-year old Andy Hallet, who played everyone's favorite night-club host demon Lorne, died of heart failure on Sunday. I didn't finish the whole run of the show myself, but Lorne was always one of my favorite characters, right behind Doyle. So just a little sad. But he's probably up in Heaven cracking everyone up by now.... Make 'em laugh, Andy!!!

Where has the time gone? [Mar. 31st, 2009|09:44 am]

[mood | nostalgic]
[music |Selena, A Traves de los AƱos CD]

Fourteen years since Selena was taken . . . . it boggles the mind. Here's my contribution for this year; I hope you like it.

Empty Heart

The sun rises,
the sun sets;
time goes by,
and life goes on.

People get up,
and go to work.
They live their lives -
they never knew you,
so they don't miss you.

Things are different for us.

The sun rises,
and we see your smile.
The wind blows through the trees,
and we hear your song.

The rain falls,
and our hearts weep.
Every night,
as the moon rises,
we think of you as we fall asleep.

We get up in the morning,
and go about our lives
just like everyone else.
But where their hearts are full,
ours have a little place,
left empty,
where you should be.

Para ti, Selena. Siempre en nuestras corazones!!!

With a little help from my friends . . . [Mar. 4th, 2009|07:59 am]
[Current Location |work]
[mood | curious]
[music |Les Yeux Noir, in my head]

Ok, people, I need some advice. I'm about to take on a dogsitting gig for a friend of my dad's while they go on a post-Katrina rebuilding trip to New Orleans. It's from the 12th to the 22nd. He lives about 20 minutes south of where I am now, so my commute will now be an extra 20-30 minutes to work. I'll be needing to get up about an hour earlier to get everything done plus walking the dog. I have to cut out all my extracurricular activities for that time, because I don't want to leave the dog alone more than I already am. I'll be walking the dog about 3 times a day, and praying that the local cats stay away so she doesn't try to pursue them. Also that the dog will refrain from putting any holes in my clothing, as she's still somewhat of a puppy and tends to nip.

So here's the thing I need help with. What do I charge this guy for the gig? My last petsitting adventure lasted three months, so I don't really have anything of equal length to compare it to. Any ideas on a ballpark figure would be really appreciated. :)

Oh, for anyone who's curious, I was told the dog is a boxer/bulldog mix. I'll see if I can get a good picture taken, and then attempt to share - we'll see how that goes . . . .

Edit: apparently he's doing a medley. He moved on from Evanescence to Pat Benatar, and now he's on Pink. Continue to be amused, I'm off to do my taxes . . . .

LIfe update..... [Feb. 17th, 2009|07:59 am]
[Current Location |work]
[mood | busy]
[music |Taylor Swift, "Change"]

Sooooo.....what's going on in my little corner of the world? Lots, actually.

Just picked up my shoes yesterday that I had dyed to match the dress I'm wearng in my sister's wedding in June. Outfit is now complete - although according to my mother it needs to be hemmed. I'm not too sure about that, but I'll go along with her. It's easier than not. I have to put the finishing touches on the cross-stitch project that is her wedding present; don't worry, she doesn't read lj, so I'm not worried about her finding out.

To-do list for today includes stopping off at the post office to submit all the documents and various other bits needed to receive my very first U.S. passport - yay!!!! Destination? Ireland. My college band - University of Delaware, best band anywhere! - is going over, together with UMass, for the New Year. And alumni get to go too, and even play!!! I've never been outside the US before; barely been everywhere *in* the US that I want to go, so you better believe I jumped on that bandwagon really quick! It's not a bad price, either; about $2500 for airfare, hotels, two meals a day, and admission prices for some of the various places we'll be seeing while there. One of which is Phoenx Park, where the President of Ireland lives, and also the U.S. and Vatican ambassadors. They're the only three houses in the entire park. The reason? After Ireland declared its independence, the U.S. and the Vatican were the first two to recognize them as a country. We also get to see Trinity College and the Book of Kells - my inner history geek still hasn't come down from the high!!! And we'll also be in the Dublin New Year's Day parade, so I'll be making sure my flute is all nice and shiny and ready for the trip. Whee!!!

So, what's next? I also have my friend Mandie's wedding in May, and sometime between now and June, I have to figure out how to throw a bridal shower. My last turn as Maid of Honor didn't go well; it's hard to be an effective MOH when you're three states away from the bride! So I have absolutely no clue what I'm doing.

I also have to get a friend of mine to look over my taxes and make sure I did them right. I had to rollover my Target 401k money into a WT IRA account that I have, and that kinda threw things off a bit. If I did do them right, I'm a happy camper, because I'm getting a big refund from Federal and only owe the state 6 bucks.

That money, if I get what I think I'm getting, goes partly to Ireland and partly to another of my stops this year - Otakon! I'm pre-registered, and all set to go. That's mid-July, coming right after the 4th of July get together that I've scheduled with my college friends. I'm coming, chicas!!! We still have a few details to work out, but it's all good.

Did I lose you? I kinda lost myself, lol!! So, recap - taxes, Mandie's wedding in May, my sister's wedding in June, 4th of July get together, Otakon in mid-July, and then hopefully a period of rest before running around like crazy getting ready for Ireland trip in December. We'll be leaving December 26th, and coming back January 4th. (Hey, did you know that Ireland can fit into the US 257 times? That's your useless trivia for the day.) Am I having fun or what? *deflates onto desk* I need a nap now!!!!

Ok, so if you have followed University of Delaware football at all recently, you know that our very own Joe Flacco was signed by and doing incredibly well with the Baltimore Ravens. Well, he's up for Rookie of the Year, and we can help him get it! Just go to www.nfl.com/rookie, and vote! Voting is open between now and January 29th, and you can vote as many times as you want! So go and vote - and vote, and vote, and vote - until we get what we want!

Ok, this obviously fan-girl announcement is now complete - you may return to your regularly scheduled livejournal at this time.

TV happiness . . . . [Nov. 18th, 2008|09:00 am]

[music |just random tunes in my head]

So, I've been watching Season One of The Tudors on DVD, since i suffer from a regrettable lack of Showtime. Anywho, I pop the first disk in, and while I'm watching the first episode, a number of thoughts occurred to me, not necessarily in this order:

1. Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is *so* hot! He made such a good choice to play Henry VIII.

2. 'Oh, *that's* why they put it on Showtime!' LOL!

I think I may have spotted a few minor historical inaccuracies, but not enough to really complain about. Nothing to get me anywhere near as excited as when I watched Troy. Probably nothing anyone would notice, unless they studied that time period really well, like I have. I'm almost done, only 4 episodes to go, and I gotta say, I really love it! How soon till season 2 comes out? Probably too far away for my liking. Oh, well.

[music |Atlantis theme in my head]

I spent all of last week in a state of nervous anticipation, waiting for Friday night's episode of Sanctuary, eager for what I was sure would be a kick-ass episode.

My faith was not in vain.

That was, without a doubt, the best episode so far. I absolutely *LOVED* it! *happy sigh*

And if that wasn't enough to guarantee an extended stay in my happy place, I discovered that Sanctuary has been picked up for a second season!!!! *heart*

Whee, now I just have to survive till the end of this week.
